Irrigation Efficiency: Best Practices to Keep in Mind for Drip Irrigation, Tree Fruit Growers

Irrigation efficiency is all about irrigating at the right time and the right place.

The majority of requests to a plant doctor – 80 per cent — are water-related. Not insects or disease but water! One of California’s foremost experts on irrigation efficiency shared this statistic with tender fruit growers at the Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Convention.

Growers Talk Success with FlowControl Drip Irrigation

FlowControl drip irrigation is taking the ag irrigation industry by storm, creating an entirely new class of tapes. It is the only tape on the market that is a true flow-moderating drip tape.

Up until now, growers accepted the worries and woes of farming uneven terrain. Growers were forced to either accept the poor uniformity and lower yields, avoid the uneven areas altogether, or buy costly pressure-compensating driplines that limit growers’ control over the system application rates. But not anymore!

Toro FlowControl drip tape gives you the best features of a pressure compensating tape, and standard tape: More uniform irrigation for any terrain, and the flexibility to control the overall system flow rate. With FlowControl drip irrigation, you truly get the best of both worlds.

Drip Irrigation Leader named ‘Agriculturalist of the Year’

Jim Klauzer did not start out working with drip irrigation. But that has been his focus since 2000, when he joined Clearwater Supply which sells and designs drip systems.

Prior to that, Klauzer was a research agronomist for a variety of pesticide makers. The last pesticide company he worked for was having a merger and wanted Klauzer to move to Georgia or Alabama.

A sales agronomist, Klauzer decided he wanted to stay in the Treasure Valley and responded to an ad for the position with Clearwater Supply.

Attend the 2016 Drought Summit during the Irrigation Show

While 2016 brought some relief to the Western drought, many areas are still experiencing historic water shortages, with no reprieve in sight. From the Colorado River to Lake Mead, water supplies are shrinking while demand increases, thus driving water users to look elsewhere for their water, in many cases underground.

Last year, the Irrigation Association hosted the first drought summit in conjunction with the 2015 Irrigation Show and Education Conference in Long Beach, California. We are excited to not only hold our second summit in Las Vegas, Nevada, but also partner with the National Ground Water Association for the 2016 Drought Summit.
